No one thought in a million years that we would ever see Will Smith and Janet Hubert reunited for this reunion special, after she was let go from her 'Aunt Viv' character role on the show back in 1993; and also her fallout with actor Will Smith. It's been 27 years since they last spoken to each other when she was terminated off the show after she allegedly violated her contract, including her pregnancy that was added into the story line of the show.
Hubert was replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid as the new 'Aunt Viv' back in the fall of 1993, who some fans of the 'original' Aunt Viv were not too happy of the new replacement, but others were a bit pleased that the character role was not killed off the show. Fans of the show did not see the second Aunt Viv as quite as excellent as the OG Aunt Viv who didn't take no mess. Janet Hubert has been beefing with Will Smith for over 20 years on the way she was allegedly mistreated on the show. Meanwhile, Will said nothing about her feud publicly and refused to talk about what happened behind the set.
Hubert, who has been struggling getting huge acting roles since her departure, has even went further to called Smith an "ass****", and demanded an apology for the years of being disrespected during her first 3 years on 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.'
But according to actor Joseph Marcell who played Geoffrey Butler, and has also worked with Janet Hubert on the show saw both sides of the story when it came to the 'Will Smith/Janet Hubert' fallout appearing as a guest in a recent podcast. Plus, Joseph & Janet got along on the set and saw her a great actress" playing the Aunt Viv character; and also has nothing bad to say about Janet in no ill will. But as Marcell has also came to Will Smith's defense, the show was called "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", and not "The Fresh Prince of Aunt Viv"; calling Janet Hubert "A Co-Star" and not "A Head Star" of the show, knowing that the TV sitcom show was based off Will Smith's character as the main star of the show.
Meanwhile, Janet Hubert wanted to be the head star of the show because of her many years of acting experience, longer the Will Smith, who just started his acting career on 'The Fresh Prince' back in 1990.
Sadly, one person who will not be at 30th Anniversary of 'The Fresh Prince Reunion' who was loved on the show. James Avery who played the "no non-sense" Uncle Phil who'd passed away on New Year's Eve December 31, 2013. He was only 68-years-old. Avery has always been a mentor to Will Smith and they were close on and off the set of 'The Fresh Prince'. Even though Smith was the star of the show, there can't no be real reunion without the man who played 'Uncle Phil' for all 6 seasons who made us laugh and cry during the show.
